Sandy Roob
Artist Sandy Roob grew up immersed in the rural landscapes of Northern Indiana. As the daughter of a farmer, she observed the family’s fields of corn, mint, and soybeans. Those images, along with her love of nature, and a fascination with clouds and changing skies influence her oil paintings.
Roob translates that surrounding beauty onto canvas with lively brush strokes or by using a palette knife. Her color palette includes shades of blue, green, and rich earth tones. She gathers art inspiration while walking near woods and water close to home, on trips around the state, and on vacations.
Roob holds a master’s in Journalism from Indiana University, and a BA in Communications and Studio Arts from DePauw University, Greencastle, IN. She interned as an art director at Young & Rubicam in New York. Following graduation, she worked as a news reporter for WNDU-TV (NBC) in South Bend. Roob later moved to Indianapolis with her husband. She took a job managing media relations for several schools at IUPUI, including the Herron School of Art.
Eventually, she left work to become a full-time mom and transferred her passion for storytelling to the canvas. Roob took painting classes at the Indianapolis Art Center (IAC) for more than a decade and then taught there for a few years. She has also participated in numerous workshops with local and regional artists.
When she’s not painting Roob enjoys fitness classes, and traveling with her husband to visit their son in Chicago, and daughter in New York City.
Roobs’ work is part of a permanent collection at the Woodstock Club in Indianapolis and the Whittaker Inn in West Lafayette. She has exhibited at Foundry 317; Hotel Broad Ripple; Goodman Jewelers, Zionsville; Sullivan Munce Art Center; Indianapolis Art Center Faculty Show; Broad Ripple Art Fair; The Stutz; and Zionsville’s Brick Street Art Walk.
